Boondock Tactical Instructors are NRA Certified Instructors and Illinois State Police certified Illinois Concealed Carry Instructors.  Boondock Tactical is a locally owned company, providing NRA basic and advanced courses, as well as the Illinois Concealed Carry course, located in central Illinois.  If you want to learn how to shoot pistols, rifles and shotguns, look no further.  Whether you need 8, 12 or the full 16 hour CCW training, we’ve got you covered.  Our IL CCW curriculum has been approved by the Illinois State Police. If you’re interested in obtaining your Illinois Concealed Carry Permit, send us an E-mail to training@boondocktactical.com.  Fees for the 8 hour IL CCW class is $75.  The 12 hour class is $115, and the full 16 hour class is $150.  Ask about NRA classes.

Mission

  • Boondock Tactical will provide you with instruction on the safe handling, loading, unloading, shooting and cleaning of handguns, in a safe, professional environment.
  • Boondock Tactical will instruct you and provide you with relevant information on how to safely and legally carry a concealed handgun in the state of Illinois.
  • Boondock Tactical will teach you basic fundamentals of handgun marksmanship, but we will not be able to make you shooting experts in the limited amount of time allowed.

It is up to you, the individual, to receive additional training, and practice in marksmanship and safe gun handling. If you are going to assume the responsibility of carrying a concealed handgun for defense of yourself or others, then it is up to you to become as proficient, and as educated as possible on the legal, moral, and ethical issues relevant to the carrying of a concealed handgun.
As Instructors, we are certified and registered with the Illinois State Police.

We at Boondock Tactical take our certification seriously, and will not engage in ANY conduct which may compromise our own integrity, or our status as certified Instructors. We are required, by law, to instruct you in firearm safety, basic principles of marksmanship, care, cleaning, loading and unloading of a concealed firearm, safe weapon handling, and all applicable Federal, State and Local laws relating to the ownership, storage, carry and transportation of a firearm. What you will receive from us is our best effort to teach you the skills and obtain the certification necessary to legally carry a concealed handgun in the state of Illinois.

What we will not do is treat anyone unfairly. We will not discriminate against anyone. We reserve the right to remove from our program, and NOT certify anyone we deem to be unsafe, or, who in our opinion, lacks the basic skill, maturity, moral compass, or mental stability to carry a concealed firearm. We will not “pencil whip” any required training, paperwork, etc., so don’t even think of asking us to do so.
We ask that you pay attention during class and on the range. Please avoid side conversations, as they are distracting to other students, and disrespectful to us. We have a limited amount of time to cover a wide variety of topics, so we will do what we must to stay on topic. When we are on the range, our top priority is safety, period. We reserve the right to remove anyone from the range for a serious safety violation. Anyone removed for a serious safety violation will not be certified by us, and will be refunded their money, and asked to leave. You are investing a substantial amount of money in the undertaking of this task, and we don’t want you wasting your time and money, or ours.
If there is something you don’t understand, PLEASE ask questions. We will answer all questions asked, and if we don’t know the answer we will find it for you before the class is over.

Bio

Don Hines is an Illinois State Police Certified Concealed Carry Instructor,  NRA Member and NRA Certified Basic Pistol, Rifle and Shotgun Instructor. He is also certified to instruct NRA Personal Protection in the Home, NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home, and is an NRA certified Range Safety Officer.

Don Hines

Steve Howerter is an Illinois State Police Certified Concealed Carry Instructor, NRA Patron Member, ISRA Member & NRA Certified Basic Pistol, Rifle, and Personal Protection Inside the Home Instructor. He has been employed with the Illinois Dept. of Corrections for 28 years.  He is currently a Correctional Counselor II, and has been a training officer and an IDOC certified firearms range instructor from 1997 to 2016.
